What is Periodontal Surgery?

Periodontal surgery addresses issues with the gums and bone that support your teeth and dental implants. It’s often needed when gum disease has advanced beyond what cleanings or antibiotics can manage, or when we need to rebuild bone to support future dental implants.

At Lake River Oral & Facial Surgery, our periodontists and surgeons work together and utilize advanced LANAP laser therapy. This minimally invasive option serves as an alternative to conventional gum surgery, encouraging natural healing without the need for cutting or stitches. Whether you aim to keep your natural teeth or get ready for implants, we customize your care at every stage.

What our Patients Say

Fantastic time here! All of the staff are always so kind and welcoming, they do everything they can to make you feel comfortable! I even got lucky & got to watch a Disney movie while waiting for my sedation to kick in, before I knew it I was waking up without my wisdom teeth!

Kailey

I typically do not write reviews, but my experience here with Dr. Lazar was phenomenal. She took the time to explain what the procedure and answered all of my questions. The post-procedure phone call that evening was completely unexpected - she just called to check in to see how I was doing.

Jim

Entire staff from front desk to oral surgeon were incredible. Very professional and accommodating during a very anxiety inducing wisdom tooth extraction. The procedure went quick and they explained all post care instructions with care.

Emily

It is no exaggeration when I say that this is the best experience that I've ever had with a medical procedure.

Jeremy

I can’t thank Dr. Chodroff and his staff enough for restoring my husbands health and smile! You guys saved his life basically. His health, physically and mentally, were very poor previous to this surgery. Thank you so very much, we can’t recommend you guys more! We are so grateful for my husbands bright future thanks to you!

Gum Grafting

When recession exposes your tooth roots or causes sensitivity, gum grafting helps restore coverage and protect against further damage. We offer both traditional and tunneling techniques, depending on your anatomy and treatment goals, to achieve predictable, aesthetic results.

Crown Lengthening

If you have a “gummy smile” or need more teeth exposed for a crown, crown lengthening reshapes the gum and bone to reveal more of your natural tooth. It’s also used to improve access during restorative procedures or to balance uneven gumlines for cosmetic results.

Pocket Reduction Surgery

Deep periodontal pockets allow bacteria to thrive—and make it nearly impossible to keep your gums healthy with brushing and flossing alone. Pocket reduction surgery removes infected tissue, smooths the root surface, and allows the gums to reattach, reducing inflammation and halting disease progression.

Peri-Implantitis Treatment

Just like teeth, implants can develop inflammation and bone loss due to plaque and bacteria. We treat peri-implantitis with targeted cleanings, guided bone regeneration, and surgical decontamination techniques to save your implants and restore health to the surrounding tissues.

Sinus Lifts

A sinus lift is a procedure that helps create enough bone in your upper jaw for dental implants. If you've experienced bone loss in that area, a sinus lift can help. We use advanced images and gentle techniques to make the process safe and predictable, especially for implants in the back of your mouth. Think of it as creating a stable foundation so your new implants can last for years to come.
